att-t-mobile-merger-2-300x177

Sprint Confers with Cable Companies to Sell Clearwire

clearwire-300x1771

Last month, Clearwire announced its plans to deploy 4G LTE. Clearwire’s majority shareholder, Sprint, also recently proclaimed its 4G LTE plan with LightSquared. Rather than playing three’s company, Sprint is discussing plans with a crew of cable companies on a possible Clearwire acquisition. Clearwire’s current WiMax network is being sold through Sprint to its customers, but the company plans to overlay its network with new 4G LTE. Though the $600 million project is ambitious, Clearwire […]

44711

AT&T this week started selling their first LTE devices, the USBConnect Momentum 4G USB modem and the AT&T Mobile Hotspot Elevate 4G. The Momentum 4G costs $50 and the Elevate costs $70 after rebate and with a two-year contract. LTE data for both devices costs $50 for 5GB per month, after which you’ll pay $10 per every gigabyte consumed. Somewhat amusingly (or perhaps annoyingly, given AT&T’s recent missteps when to comes to network deployment honesty), […]

Clearwire May Be in Trouble – And Sprint Frankly May Not Give a Damn

101476

Investors are growing increasingly nervous that Clearwire not only won’t be able to raise enough cash to both function and continue their network build out, but that they won’t be able to raise enough cash to make their promised switch to LTE technology. Last week Clearwire stated they’d need an additional $600 million to incorporate “LTE Advanced-ready” technology into the company’s 4G network, though the real world total needed could be double that. As Bloomberg […]
